Our Story

Our Story

Jehosuduw Urban Farm Academy began with a simple vision: make sustainable agriculture education accessible to everyone in Sarawak.

Founded in 2019 by a group of agricultural scientists, educators, and sustainable farming advocates, our academy emerged from recognizing a critical gap in Malaysia's agricultural landscape. While hydroponic and urban farming technologies were advancing rapidly worldwide, local farmers and aspiring growers lacked access to comprehensive, practical training.

We established our training facility in Kuching's Tabuan Heights, strategically located to serve both urban and rural communities throughout Sarawak. Our founders brought together decades of combined experience in agronomy, hydroponic systems engineering, sustainable agriculture, and educational program development.

What started as a small workshop space with basic NFT systems has grown into Sarawak's premier hydroponics training center. Today, we operate a 1,200-square-meter facility featuring multiple hydroponic system types, climate-controlled growing environments, and hands-on training spaces that accommodate classes from 10 to 30 students.

Our Journey

Six years of growth, innovation, and impact

2019 - Foundation

Jehosuduw Urban Farm Academy officially launched in March 2019 with our first Hydroponic Fundamentals course. Initial enrollment: 15 students. Facility size: 300 square meters with 2 full-time instructors.

2020 - Expansion During Pandemic

COVID-19 paradoxically accelerated our growth as interest in local food production surged. We expanded to 600 square meters, added Vertical Farming Systems course, and trained 320 students despite pandemic challenges. Developed online supplementary materials for remote learning support.

2021 - Program Diversification

Launched Commercial Production, Advanced Nutrient Management, and Integrated Pest Management courses. Reached 500 total graduates milestone. Established alumni network and ongoing support program for graduate farms.

2022 - Recognition & Certification

Achieved accreditation from Malaysian Department of Agriculture. Received Excellence in Agricultural Education Award from Sarawak State Government. Graduate success rate (farms still operating after 2 years): 89%—highest in Southeast Asia.

2023 - Technology Integration

Upgraded facility with IoT monitoring systems, automated climate controls, and advanced LED lighting arrays. These systems became integral parts of our training, ensuring students graduate with knowledge of both fundamental principles and cutting-edge technology.

2024-2025 - Regional Leadership

Reached 1,200+ total graduates. Now operating 1,200 square meters of training facilities. Partnerships established with 5 universities for research collaboration. Consultation projects with government agencies on urban agriculture policy. Planning expansion to Miri in 2026.

Our Core Values

The principles that guide everything we do

Excellence in Education

We maintain the highest standards in curriculum design, instructor qualifications, and hands-on training. Our programs continuously evolve based on industry advances, student feedback, and graduate success outcomes.

Sustainability Focus

Environmental responsibility isn't just taught—it's practiced. Our facility operates on renewable energy, uses rainwater harvesting, and implements circular resource management. Students see sustainability in action.

Community Impact

We measure success not just by student numbers but by community transformation. Our graduates create jobs, improve food security, and inspire others. Education ripples outward, benefiting entire communities.

Practical Approach

Theory matters, but practice builds competence. Our courses emphasize hands-on experience—students build systems, mix nutrients, diagnose problems, and harvest crops. They leave with practical skills, not just theoretical knowledge.

Innovation Mindset

Agriculture constantly evolves. We embrace new technologies, test emerging techniques, and share validated innovations with students. Our curriculum reflects cutting-edge practices, not outdated methods.

Student Success

Graduate success defines our success. We provide ongoing support—alumni consultations, troubleshooting assistance, and networking opportunities. Your success after graduation matters as much as your learning during courses.
